Signal meter lamp on FT902DM
Hi has anyone ever changed a signal meter lamp on a Yaesu Ft902 DM perhaps they could tell me the proceedure for doing it any help appreciated many thanks Sylvia
Re 902 meter lamp.
Hello Sylvia, the lamp is easily removed from the back of meter, by pulling out the rubber grommit/enclosure it sits in. The lamp itself looks like a small round glass minature bayonet type, but the original has wires moulded directly into it. You may not find one of these now, and Yaesu dont stock them any more. But no problem, simply pull lamp forward out of rubber sleeve, snip the two wires off close to the lamp. Aquire a small wattage 12 volt miniture bayonet cap type lamp from Maplins. (If you take the old snipped off lamp with you you can match the size/style of the glass bulb itself, dont get an elongated glass bulb type, these poke inside the meter too far, get the round type).
Get one with a maximum wattage of 1 to 2 watts, (larger 5 watt ones which are common, get a little "too warm" inside the meter enclosure!).
Solder one wire to the tip of the bayonet connection on the bottom of new lamp, the other to the sleeve connection, and ease the lamp back into the rubber surround. You will find its a good fit. Pop it back into the rear of the meter (just pushes into place) and job done........another twenty years of illumination!
Just remember dont be tempted to put a higher wattage lamp in than a couple of watts max, or the meter workings get very warm and the difuser screen, that spreads the light evenly, can "darken" with excess heat!
Also "round glass bulb" lamp, NOT "elongated glass bulb" lamp.
Hope this helps,
Ready Eddie.
P.S. the above also applies to 101ZD owners.........same info!
Re above
No problem Sylvia, just checked the lamp I fitted myself recently, it was 12 volts 1.2 watts, (100 mA/0.1 A), and seemed to match the overall light level illumination of the original, unfortunately Yaesu only ever quoted a "stock number" for this part, not the original electrical specs, but the one I ended up using seemed to match fine.
All the best,
Ready Eddie.

Quote: "The best I found before was the opaque plastic from a milk carton, it spread the light pretty well. "
Been there, done that! .............do you think we get brownie points for re-cycling?!!:D
