Yaesu Ft7800 - Deaf!

Just bought a Yaesu 7800e from a ham operator on Junksale and its deaf. even the local repeater shows hardly any signal bars and I have compared it to another 7800 which shows all the signal bars for the same repeater. It has been opened to 446mhz. However - I trusted the radio but my question is can it be repaired by Yaesu and how do I go about it or can a local dealer take the radio for repair.
I came across another of these radios months ago which had a resistor removed from the PCB to enable 446mhz operation.

Any suggestions?

I can recommend Castle Electronics near Welshpool, he will do an excellent job to make it a listening rig.

Hardly a rip off. I just wanted to know if it could be fixed to receive. Id bought it for the 446 tx so that works fine. Maybe I will have it fixed.

But these are no good for 446, as they dont have the 6.25 step that is required.
You would be better off buying kenwood if you want to use 446.

Yaesu Ft7800 - Deaf!

Did you manage to get it sorted?
I have just purchased one of these from eBay and this has had the mod done for extended TX, but the reception is awful.
My s-meter never moves unless the other station is within about 100m of the antenna.
Cheers,
