Standards
I am with you all the way on this Dave.
After being QRT for many years (CB came and went), the standards (or lowering of same) are very noticable.
No need for further comment, just listen around the bands.

THIS KIND OF THREAD IS OLD HAT NOW,, HEARD IT SO MANY TIMES, can you not think of something new to post,,
old hat
but no matter how many times you moan about it nothings going to change, and we all know that it is the" only way to get your licence now", your welcome to your opinion but you must agree that this subject has been done to death,,
Jock51 - no matter how "old hat" a subject might be and however many times it has been discussed before, there are always new people who wish to add to the debate with their own comments. I suggest if you find it so boring, then there is no need for you to read, take part in or comment on the thread, although I will always defend your right to do so. It might be more constructive to come up with a new topic of your own instead of deriding this one.
Andy - on re-reading my comment above, I have re-thought my opinion about age limits and think that operating ability is more important. We must all set a good example and hope that this rubs off on others - of all ages.
Benvue - as for the "hogging" of repeaters, perhaps the repeater keepers would take a hand in insisting on fair use of "their" repeater, although how do you reason with some of the numpty element without getting your head kicked in these days. Are you sure these abusers are not the repeater owners anyway?

The above comment I made earlier also applies to you Ranger2950.
Try adding to the debate not groaning at its subject matter.

moaning
alan if people were coming on every week belittling g0s, you would soon get the hump im sure, it just seems that most people who post this topic just want to get a slanging match going,, and this topic has been done to death as well, just common sense to me that if a group of people keep getting s**ged of bellittled and other such things that they are going to retaliate at some point,, so give it a few more months alan newcomer and see what you think, by the way nothing against you personally you being a g0 i think,,just thought i would have a pop at someone, so in my opinion why dont all the critisizers give it a rest for at least a week,, and i still want to hear whats the best beam,,other makes than tonna..cheers jock
points
u might as well safe your points for a dummy because u need 1
moaners
alan returning oldie, i was not having a personal dig at you or at anybody else in particular,,and i do agree that certain practices etc should be sorted out, but when you log onto this once fine sight, and you continually see the same old garbage being racked up time and time again it starts to grate a little bit, anyway enough said time to call it a day before it gets out of hand,,just hope we get a break from it all,,at least for a week or two,,
Hi Dave
It was myself who was wondering as to your identity ,just curious .I also said that a man with your experience could help new people into the hobby ? .
I would be of playing radio but the wind is knocking the stuffing out of my beam up here .
All the best
Paul
Hi
No matter what the RSGB does about the foundation exam somebody is going to be upset.
The foundation exam is a great introduction to the hobbie you can try it out and see if you like it.
page 21 in this months radcom
The examinations are now on three levels. The first is an entry level called the foundation licence which is designed to give you a taste of what Amateur radio is all about.
Herein lies the problem. The definition of "taste" the rsgb has pretty much left it up to you the Amateur to decide what a "taste" is.
Anything the rsgb does to control the lenght of the taste period or limit it by way of bands etc is going to put people off having a taste in the first place.
Cheers
Paul

restriction of power
Hi ian I O D Ok how do you suggest restricting m3 m6 power levels ?? Its impossible to police the hf bands and i have been told this by a member of the amateur radio official observer < yes they do exist > on a visit to our club this year, complaints to the radio licensing fall on deaf ears .. my opinion so dont shoot me
Fact or Fiction???
"Just a few facts for you folks:"
On what do you base these "facts"??? or are they simply your opinions , of which you are of course entitled...
DO YOU ANY EVIDENCE TO JUSTIFY YOUR COMMENTS??

Re: Re: Re: Standards
I have two son`s which got there m3`s back some years ago this was due to our local collage not runnng the coarse due to lack of people not willing to turn up from september to may, which many of us did as i did to get on the bands.
but the foundation coarse may have increased numbers for the good or bad it is yours to say.
but my youngest son who was 14 at the time to get so much stick off a so called amateur in sheffield when he was on 145.500 calling cq and was told not to call so many times ect,
anyway both my son`s do not use the radio now due to mindless people.
any way what i have to say to me it is not the callsign that matters but it is the person you are and if you have to start with a m3 or m6 so what give then chance. like driving a car your dont learn everthing when you pass your driving test but it is the beinging.
