Yaesu DMU

I see one dealer is hoping to sell the Yaesu DMU for £820!!
Fat chance. To increase prices like this shows us just what the manufacturers think of us.

Sooner or later, there will have to be real competition in the amateur radio market. Manufacturers that stifle competition by refusing to let dealers offer discounts may soon find that they run foul of competion legislation.

If only this was the case. I remember the days when the Kenwood brand was regarded as "grey" imports by Lowes in Matlock, they had the complete monopoly on Trio radios.

It tickles me everytime I read "******* are pleased to announce they have been appointed sole European distibutor for ........blah blah blah"

Ill bet they are pleased it means the dictate the price and no-one else can sell it any cheaper.

Dave - there can only be two explanations as far as Im concerned.

The postulation you offer is one, the second is that someone is on the take somewhere that is powerful enough to block action.

Mind you it is nice when you can look them up on the web and buy direct regardless of who is the "sole importer or distributor"

Currency

I would say it is solely to do with the low value of the GB £ against the j*panese Yen.
I really do not believe that UK Dealers are fixing prices to extortionate prices. Why would they do that? They need our custom to survive.

Please think about the reasons for price reasons before jumping to conclusions. Have you RUNG the dealer to ask for the reason for the price rise?

One good way to get a really good deal is to get your local club to arrange a "Emporium Visit" ring the dealer and arrange a discount for the club beforehand. Or if there are several people that want a particular unit then haggle for a bulk buy. IT WORKS! i have done it with some friends.

pricing

I get regular emails from the Yaesu FT950 refelector. Quite a coincidence that todays files included some questions about DMU prices from a US station. He mentions that Texas Towers price today is $699. That equates to £481.471 then add 15% vat brings the total to £553.69.

UK dealer price is £819.95. Difference £266.26!!!
Anyone cares to tell me that these figures are wrong and we are getting fair prices?

I rest my case.

Exchange Rate!!!!!!

As we pointed out it is CURRENCY EXCHANGE that accounts for the difference.
There is also the chance that the USA supplier is using older stock, that was purchased at a good exchange rate.
If you look at the US$ - Yenn rate it is better than the Yenn - GB£ rate.

Well a quick web search has brought up a price in YEN for the DMU-2000 as been 126,000 YEN. At the current exchange rate with the j*panese, that is £951 + taxes.

Whats the problem??
