Heads up for a good contest this weekend

Hooray :) ARRL DX contest 7/8 March 2009

Lots of USA stations getting ready for the off on 20M this afternoon testing their equipment eTc.

Hoping to see how many I can hit with my little FT 817ND with its mighty 5 watts via my vertical over the weekend. :)

Hopefully I will bag bag a few new States into the bargain whilst working qrp.

More info on the below link if you want it.

Go on join in and enjoy the busy bands.

Enjoy, hopefully I will grab the Trans Atlantic contaCT on 160M, fingers crossed. :)

Well the contest seems to be going well so far on 40m.
I have been up since 6:30 this morning, and worked about 30 contacts in the USA and Canada on 40m. I would like that Hawaii station, but is operating out of (UK) band.
At this rate, I will have worked all states within a day.

There are some rather conservative power reports been communicated too. 1W from Italy, yet giving +20 to the back of my beam? Whats his antenna - want one :P

Many thanks for the report Ian. The Steppir does make a big difference even over the A3S that I used to use.
Now if only I could have some real height... :)

I will listen out for you.. its like shooting fish in a barrel out there. (and some splatter to spoil it of course)

I am QRP. Well when compared to the rest of the world. :(

Listening to the other stations reeling off 1KW in their report, it shows that we here in the UK are defintately the poor relatives where power comes to play.

I think that someone should tell the Italians of their power entitlements then... I have never heard one using less then 1KW.

Hi

I Managed to work USA and Canada on 80 a few times this morning new ones for me 100watts and a loop.

The top band vertical is up and I will be trying to work the USA.

128ft of wire helically wound 45ft high on a modified sota pole. 50 and 40mm waste pipe and down pipe. Skips don`t you just love them.

Cheers

Paul

Hi

Did not manage the USA on top band but worked Canada
VY2ZM ON 160/80/40/20.

Heard a few with big signals

Top band Antenna is away for the summer so the kids can have the garden back :).

The ground need improving and the antenna needs to be bigger :)
but thats a project for next winter.

Cheers

Paul
