Hi John useing the vechicle battery is not a good idea as you have to have the engine running to stop the battery going flat i personally use a lorry battery thats 650ahrs this will run a 100watt radio for days without going flat, dave,mi0hgn
WOW Dave do you need a truck to carry it around:confused:
hope your well

Hi Keith no just a very strong back,it fits behind the drivers seat of a fiesta, dave
Thats a big battery in a fiesta. The 630 Ah 2V cells we use are the better part of 45Kg each. I had a 24V set in the back of a Vivaro van and it felt as if I was driving up hill all day!

Steve this one wont tip over its to blooming heavey its a foot and a half in length and 10 inches high and 10 inches wide it came of a 7 1/2 ton lorry, dave
Maybe buy a second battery and install it in the boot. As long as you have a recharger at home then you should be having no problems.
Well you could go one better and use a wind generator. But the idea in my head is worthy of a Monty Python animation.
Mobile Power Supply
I use a rechargeable car battery, with a charger in the garage. The battery sits in a plastic tray in the boot, secured with bungee rubbers. Supply to radio via crocodile clipped leads. With the Yaeus FT-857, on HFVHF using ATAS antenna, a charge will last at least for a full day. Fast charge overnight is sufficient.
No problems with RF in the engine management system.

Mobile Battery
I flattened my battery waffling on 20mtrs outside a clients premises one lunchtime.
I decided I did not want that to happen again.
I then put a second car battery in the boot, secured it, and then fused it appropriately , wired the radio direct, and then fitted a relay to switch the alternator output to charge the second battery, when the car is running.
Bingo! no more embarrassment of asking for a jump start.
