I worked a Helicopter over the coast of the east Timor sea
on 10m in 2001.
That I consider to be my most unusual qso to date.
east Timor is 4W.
Operating under a special event RAF call sign, one of the operators made contact with someone about 2,000 feet from Luton. We got the message.
I would say my best personal contact was either the one with a station in the Tower of London for museums on the air or the one I had with a mobile station in the middle of the Sahara.

Some years ago i too worked an airline pilot 30 000 feet above greenland on route to california....they can certainly operate this way...with the appropriate license of course.
I worked KC5TZQ on 2m FM back in 1996 when he was travelling at an altitude of 200km, think he said he was doing roughly 18,000 km per hour, but saying that he was on the MIR space station at the time.
Some great contacts there mentioned above, must be a real buzz when you know that there right up there in the sky using nothing more efficient than a mobile aerial type antenna.
