144MHz UKAC

Tuesday 5h May RSGB 144MHz UK Activity Contest and Club Championship from 1900 to 2130 GMT (2000-2230 local)

A busy one last month with IO83 very well represented.
Nice to see more foundation licence stations having a go.

We just need some IO94 and IO95 activity. :)

Cheers

Tony, the duration of the contest do you usually operate from one frequency or scan the band picking up points?

Things up here in IO95 are VERY bleak just now Tony
Even I have chucked it in and sold my SSB equipment due to the amount of idiots on the band.

There are a couple of die hards still going ,lets hope you make contact with them

I tend to be around 144.265 but, because it can be very busy, you usually find that when you turn the beam what you thought was your frequency is actually occupied.
So someone has to move. :)
144.210 to 144.360 tends to have various levels of occupancy.
People tend to prefer to be close to the calling channel which can lead to problems.
I assume that is because they worry that some are not tuning enough of the band so would miss them if they were on, say. 144.205.

It can also be a problem being in an area of high activity as the more distant signals can be masked.
Particularly if a number are using omnidirectional antennas as, obviously, their signals are always there, even when working stations in the opposite direction.

All part of the fun of it. :)

Cheers

Hi

Good contest I think big signals from MM0GPZ/P AND G4RRA with qsb.

I only heard a few Ei answering cq contest calls but zero calling cq test. I heard one EI in IO65ga (missed the call) very well 5/5 here.

Cheers

Thanks Gerry!

And a very fine signal you were as well with your 9ele tonna at 20 feet.

First time Ive seen IO65 in the log for ages...I might even be trying to prize a card out of you to confirm Donegal

Thanks to everyone else for the points as well,it was a good contest down here lots of activity particularly from EI....with IO65 IO61 IO62 IO63 and IO51 in the log I was well pleased.

Also nice to work lots of familiar callsigns from the Junksale forum

4dez was a good signal all night but he is a good signal all the time on all bands.

and yeah you jumped out of the noise i heard another station giving you a report later on but didnt hear you

so condtions were strange there was bad qsb over here guess its the fact i am beaming into the wicklow mountains to nearly all of the uk so that cant help.

will be on for the 2 day contest in a few weekends im sure that the will have more time for us in the west during that one

Several stations reported this to him, one one occasion he said he would do something about it... stopped transmitting for 30 seconds then started CQing again with exactly the same peoblem.. Hmmm!

Hi

I am having problems with it crashing my system but I am using the beta version.

It will run as a stand alone program Gerry the path is if installed to c: drive.

C:Program FilesAmateur RadioHam Radio Deluxemapper.exe

you can just drop a shortcut on the destop.

It works very well showing the distance in km between your locator and where worked.

Cheers

Paul

Hi

This is how you do it in Ham radio Deluxe

top pull down menus "TOOLS" Select "settings"

Click on the "HOME" tab

enter your square "IO82TS" Is mine

Click on the Up arrow to convert to lat, lon

pick what you want to display in miles Kms/Miles.

click on "OK"

As you move your mouse over the map look in the bottom right hand side of the program window you will see the distance displayed in miles.

Cheers

Paul

Paul

Be aware that Mapper is no longer supported in HRD!

New HRD uses Google earth!

While google earth feature is neat, I think the loss of Mapper is a big dissapointment.

Of Course Mapper can be used as a stand alone program by manualy inputting stations, but it was very nice to select log entries and see them on the map, so you could keep a track of worked squares.

Dont think you can do this with Google earth!

Thanks for the card Gerry, last one I got from IO65 was back in 1982,and that was from GI8YDZ,I wonder what happened to him he used to be very active.

Mines on the way back, not quite as scenic but OK if you like looking at photos of antennas!

Once again thanks for confirming Donegal.

Like Tony I use VQlog which works well for me,however its not one of the free ones.
