4 mtrs any good?
recently licenced...looking at the 4 meter band in north east..heard a few on 2meters..145.375 sound like a good bunch of lads but heard a few on other channels swearing and obviously had a few beers to many...is 4 meters any good and what are the bands like roundsabouts these here parts.??
would make my own aerials ....guidance please,
is 2m amateur radio??
wouldnt bother with fm , i tried it and sat listening to voices from 2m trying to justify the expensive modded rig so it wasnt only getting used on 2m fm.. still with nothing to say.
if i tried again it would be ssb only. this seems to have a following and if im not mistaken theres been a few contests on the band . more and more countries are getting the go a head for the band also.

tu coffindodger....looks like HF cw then...cheers matey c**k!
dont get me wrong, plenty of activity on the higher bands with a good following .
get on horizontal ssb and youll find the more interested ops there.. 2 and 70 ssb has a good following as does 6 and 4 m but i feel you need to get the horizontal antenna up to break free a little ..
the thing is most people have the capability to work 6,2 and 70 both fm and ssb, a good majority will simply use a vert tribander on ssb ,
get a beam up and youll find the interested ops who have made an effort to work the band and can ignore the loons on fm and vert ssb ..
