Why All This Junk???
I was a member of Junksale back when Chris was the moderator and back then it was a great voice to the hobby. Like many I understood the hard work that Chris put into the site and also sympathetic to the reasons why he felt the need to let it go. I was also one of many financial contributors. When Lee and Claire took over the site it had its initial teething probs but they both carried on the tradition of the site and up until recently their work and efforts could not be questioned. Junksale was a meeting place for folk to trade, not just gear but ideas and exchange information amongst the amateur fraternity, a true F
ORUM.
Today has seen an end to all of that

Junksale is no longer a forum for exchanging both gear and information pertinant to the hobby. I'm currently running an application called Wireshark against the site after I became a little concerned about the amoutn of CPU usage my notebook was experiencing. Some of you maybe familier with Wireshark and it's use, for those of you who are not it is a Network Packet Analyser, amongst other things.
For a hobby forum is there really a need for the constant stream of TCP and HTTP activity with data relating to third party activity?
I have enjoyed this FORUM mainly due to the fact that it is naturally geared toward the UK amateur in contrast to the likes of Eham and QRZ, and as I mentioned in another thread my primary reason for using it was for the technical exchange part of the hobby.
I admire Lee and Claire for originally stepping up to the plate and taking on Junksale when required and carrying on the traditions of the site. But today is reminding me of the same scenario of a major supermarket chain moving into a cornershop near you.
Obviously it's early days for this new format but this site is no longer my startup page in my browser due to what I consider to be background intrusions onto my network of all the superfluous TCP/HTTP and other protocal activity.
If this works for Lamcommunications then power to them and I wish them all the success in this economic climate but I think we have lost a great Forum.
